CBD Oil For Cats

From creams and capsules to everything else in between, it’s no wonder cat owners everywhere are considering giving CBD to their furry friends.

What is CBD?

The first step in knowing whether CBD is the right choice for you and your cat is to learn what CBD is. CBD is a phytocannabinoid that’s created through the decarboxylation of the cannabinoid acid known as CBDA.

To put it more simply, CBDA, which is naturally occurring in both hemp and marijuana, needs to be exposed to heat over an extended period of time in order to become CBD. CBD is a non-psychoactive compound which means it can’t get you high. A CBD oil in its most basic form is a hemp or marijuana extract that’s been placed into at least one base oil such as hemp seed oil, MCT oil or grapeseed oil.

It’s important to know that CBD may affect the way your body metabolizes medications. This means that if your cat is taking antibiotics to treat an infection, CBD could possibly increase or decrease its efficacy.

Beyond the possibility of it affecting the way your cat metabolizes medication, the only other possible side effects include dry mouth, drowsiness, nausea, and fatigue. Side effects with CBD are normally only experienced when you or your cat has had a dosage of CBD that’s too high for their body size.

How should you give it to them?

You can try to create your own makeshift CBD pet treats by simply pouring CBD oil on top of their usual cat treats. Some cat owners choose to place the oil in their cat’s food instead. If you’re brave, you can try and place the oil directly into your cats’ mouth, but we find that most cats don’t really enjoy that.

You know your cat best and so we’ll leave that decision up to you. If you’re looking for the perfect product to match your cats needs you can head to our CBD for pets dosage calculator.
