How does CBD coffee work?
CBD coffee is considered by many as a nootropic. If you’re not familiar with the word nootropic it’s defined as any drugs, supplements, and other substances that may help to improve cognitive function. Coffee has long been used for the energizing effects it has on both the mind and body, but why add CBD into the mix?
It’s been shown that CBD has the ability to cancel out a majority of the negative side effects that are often associated with drinking too much coffee. The biggest negative side effect from having too much coffee is the jitters. Many people find that even after having one too many cups of CBD infused coffee they still feel calm and collected.
Although the exact mechanism of action of CBD still needs further research, we know that it interacts with our endocannabinoid system. This system is made up of CB1 and CB2 receptors.
These two receptors, which can be found all throughout the body, help to maintain a state known as homeostasis. This fancy word simply means a state of balance. With time and more research, we hope to know exactly how CBD interacts with coffee, and more specifically caffeine, to create such a powerful nootropic.
Now that we know a little bit more about CBD coffee, let’s take a look at our top three.
Our Four Favorite CBD Infused Coffees in Depth
We’re in love with this dark roast coffee by Steepfuze because it combines three delicious types of coffee from around the world with full spectrum CBD. The driving bean and flavor of this delicious blend comes from a popular growing region near Mt. Hagen on the Indonesian island of Sumatra.
The coffee from that region tends to be full-bodied and provides flavors of smoked wood with just a touch of sweetness. The next coffee beans they add into the mix come from Papua New Guinea. These beans are naturally quite low in acid and feature a complex flavor profile of bittersweet dark chocolate and a subtle touch of earthiness.
Finally, they add in coffee beans produced near Sipi Falls in Uganda. These beans complement this already heavily structured blend with mild citrusy notes. This is the perfect product for anyone looking to have a boost of energy without experiencing the jitters. Simply combine two heaping tbsp with 8oz of hot water and stir.
This coffee combines three Arabica coffees from around the world. The first bean that’s added to this blend is a washed Bourbon varietal which brings overtones of chocolate and caramel. A Bugisu coffee from near the famous Sipi Falls on Mt. Elgon in Uganda is also added. It features lighter bodied flavors and builds on the chocolaty notes adding a mild acidity and hints of caramelized sugar.
Finally, to complete the structure of this coffee, SteepFuze's Sidamo blend is added. These dry processed Ethiopian heirloom beans add the sweet flavor of blueberries and top notes notes of apricots. The three varietals are roasted individually to a Medium Viennese roast to create a rich bold cup while preserving the lighter, sweeter flavors that enhance this round robust blend.
This is a great product for anyone looking to have a boost of energy without experiencing the jitters. Simply combine two heaping tbsp with 8oz of hot water and stir.
This light roast coffee by Steepfuze combines certified organic single origin coffee along with full spectrum CBD. Sourced from the Santa Rosa de Copán region of Honduras this coffee is processed using a traditional wash method – pulping the cherries and fermenting them in tanks before washing the mucilage completely from the seed, and then finally drying them on patios.
This complex process yields a very clean cup of coffee, whether you prefer a fuller bodied French press, a transparent pour over brew, a stronger and more acidic pull of espresso, or the push of the Aeropress.
Notes of almonds, toffee, and some lingering floral and zesty citrus tastes are how we’d describe this delicious coffee. It’s yet another great choice for anyone looking to have a boost of energy without experiencing the jitters. Simply combine two heaping tbsp with 8oz of hot water and stir. All of the CBD coffees that we’ve looked at are Non GMO, Gluten Free, Organic and Vegan. They can also be purchased in a whole bean or ground format.
Last but certainly not least a CBD coffee by Green Roads. It's the perfect blend of premium Colombian coffee and cannabinoid-rich hemp flowers. Featuring the rich flavors of chocolate, caramel, and hazelnut that will have you coming back for more. This coffee will give you a gentle boost of energy without any of the jitters. Directions: use two tbsp of coffee for every six ounces of water.
Temperature is Everything
When it comes to CBD, temperature is everything. Heating it past a certain point could cause the oil to evaporate which would make your coffee taste more bitter. Although the evaporation point of CBD only starts at 320 degrees Fahrenheit, if you plan on cooking with your CBD coffee it’s important to keep temperature in mind.
BulletProof Coffee A La CBD
If you’re following the ketogenic diet or you’re simply a fan of rich and creamy coffee, you’ll love our spin on this metabolism boosting coffee recipe. Bulletproof coffee, which is actually a brand name, has become widely known within the ketogenic community. This type of coffee is also known as ghee coffee.
All you need to make it is some ghee (which is a type of butter), MCT oil, CBD infused coffee, and some water. This combination is supposed to give your body a huge boost of energy and it may also help to give a boost to your metabolism.
- 1 tsp ghee
- 2 ½ tbsp CBD infused ground coffee
- 1 tsp of MCT oil
- 6-8 ounces of water
Simply combine and enjoy!
We love the idea of getting more energy and speeding up our metabolism, but you know what we love even more? The idea of doing all of that while remaining calm. You can achieve that easily by simply replacing your regular coffee with CBD infused coffee instead.
As a bonus, the MCT oil and the ghee will help to increase the bioavailability rates of the CBD oil. This simply means that your body will absorb more of the CBD than it did without them.
Drinking CBD infused coffee may be a great way of getting a gentle boost of energy without having to experience the jitters. Although it’s possible to simply add your favorite CBD oil or tincture into your morning cup of coffee, drinking CBD infused coffee will provide you with a less oily smooth morning brew.
